Ingredients:
1 orange
1 lemon
1 lime
1 1/2 c. spiced rum
1/2 c. cane sugar
1 bottle (750 ml) dry red wine
1/3 - 1/2 c. pitted cherries
Directions:
Wash fruits to remove any residue. Rinse and pat dry. Slice citrus fruits into rounds and cut cherries in half. Place fruit, rum, and sugar in a glass pitcher. Muddle fruit lightly. Chill in the refrigerator for two hours.
Stir in chilled wine. Adjust sweetness.
Notes:Â
1) You can add in 1/2 c. orange juice, if desired. We have frozen it ahead of time and added it to the pitcher on particularly hot days. It helps to keep the sangria cool without watering it down.
2) We have used a variety of red wines for this. We found Pinot Noir to be a good option.
3) You can vary the fruit in this recipe. You can leave the cherries out, if desired. We have tried the recipe with raspberries instead of cherries and in addition to cherries. We have also thrown in a few blueberries if we had them on hand.
4) We use spiced rum in our recipe, but you can use regular rum instead if you prefer.
